Each year, 175,000 children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide. This makes cancer the number one disease killer of children in The United States. And only 4% of all funds raised for cancer research in the US is earmarked for pediatric cancer treatments - 4%. For many of us, these statistics are just numbers until we know someone who has been affected by this horrible disease. We here at stRIDE realized that our voice, our reach goes far beyond the health and wellness of the clients we have within the walls of our studio. We are a team, we are best friends, and we have become a family, and when someone in the family needs help, we all step up. So we’re stepping up. We are so excited and honored to announce our first ever spin-a-thon to benefit the Jake’s Dragon Foundation.
Jake’s Dragon Foundation was founded in memory of Jake McHugh who lost his battle with Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma at age 14 after a courageous 6-month battle. JDF uses 100% of funds raised to support local kids who are currently battling cancer and to support pediatric cancer research. In honor of what would have been Jake’s 15th birthday, stRIDE has offered their studio space to host a 26.2-hour Spin event on December 8-9, 2018. All proceeds raised go to Jake’s Dragon Foundation for support of local families and to further advance pediatric cancer research. The need for funding is tremendous, and every dollar goes a long way.
Want to get involved? You can! This is a team event, with each spin bike in our studio representing a team - so stRIDE has room for 30 teams to participate in this Spin Marathon. Each team must have a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 26 participants per team. If you have 26 people on your team, you’re each spinning for 1 hour of the marathon. If you have only 8 people on your team, you’ll each have to spin for 3-4 hours of the marathon. Make sense? Regardless of how many team members you end up with, we want every bike OCCUPIED during each hour of the Spin Marathon! There is a $15 registration fee for each participant, and each team is also required to raise a minimum of $750. Your team, your ride, your DIFFERENCE you will be making towards pediatric cancer research and helping families affected who are in need. If you aren’t a rider but you want to help, you can certainly support a rider or a team with a donation - every dollar helps!
GET EXCITED & GET INVOLVED. Even if you are not on a team come by the studio on December 8-9th for food, raffles, prizes, and FUN at the studio! Gold is the ribbon color for pediatric cancer awareness - do you know why? It’s because these children are PRECIOUS! We encourage everyone to wear gold on the 8th and 9th to raise awareness and support for pediatric cancer.
